28 May to 3 June

It’s cold outside but this week’s event guide is sizzling with great things to do!

In theatre news, two dating comedies open this week: Alan Committie’s Love Factually at the Baxter Theatre from Tuesday 29th and Joshua Harmon’s Significant Other at the Fugard Theatre from Wednesday 30th. And at the movies, Ster-Kinekor is releasing two thrillers – historic Chappaquiddick and local Nommer 37 – on Friday 1st while the 20th annual Encounters Documentary Film Festival starts on Thursday 31st.

If that’s not enough entertainment, The Parlotones are also celebrating their 20th anniversary with a concert at the Artscape Opera House on Friday 1st. The same venue will host the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra in the first concert of the autumn symphony season on Thursday 31st, featuring Italian pianist Antonio Pompa-Baldi and works by Rachmaninov, Respighi, and Mussorgsky/Ravel.

Speaking of new seasons, this weekend marks the return of the Drizzled Winter Music & Food Fest on Sunday 3rd. And since winter is on the way, now’s a good time to discover all the best winter restaurant specials that will keep you coming back for more.

In fact, we know at least ten things that are better during winter in Cape Town (including the winter accommodation specials). But if you’re up for exploring further afield, now’s also a great time to go on a wine road trip with the Wacky Wine Weekend in Robertson from Thursday 31st and the Franschhoek Mystery Weekend from Friday 1st. Spoiler alert: whatever you do, you’re in for a treat!
