A walk, a run, and a whole lot of fun await you in this week’s event guide!
In cultural news, the Artscape Opera House hosts the second concert of the autumn symphony season from the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra on Thursday 7th. It features Russian violinist Nikita Boriso-Glebsky and works by Beethoven, Sibelius, and Tchaikovsky. There’s also the annual ten-day Hermanus FynArts festival, which starts on Friday 8th.
At the movies, Ster-Kinekor is releasing the action adventure Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom on Friday 8th, Cinema Nouveau is screening the National Theatre Live’s production of Macbeth from Saturday 9th, and the Fugard Bioscope is screening The Royal Ballet’s production of Manon on Sunday 10th.
You can enjoy more art and culture with First Thursdays this week, which is a great chance for you to explore the best restaurants in Bree Street. But if you’d prefer to skip the crowds, eat out at the best restaurants in Cape Town’s ‘east city’ (and dance the night away at Dust and Dynamite, a rodeo-style saloon) instead.
Speaking of good food and drinks, Friday 8th is the annual Taste the Helderberg showcase at the NH Lord Charles Hotel in Somerset West as well as the annual Chardonnay & Pinot Noir Celebration at The Vineyard Hotel in Newlands. And if that’s not enough, we’ve got 13 glorious gin experiences in and around Cape Town to raise a glass for World Gin Day on Saturday 9th.
In honour of Global Running Day on Wednesday 6th, here are the best trail runs in Cape Town. But if you want to take it slower, we’ve got you covered with the best hiking trails in Cape Town and the best long-distance hiking trails in South Africa if you’ve got more time. Either way, remember that life’s a journey and we’re excited to have you with us for the ride!
