There are plenty of ways to celebrate the centenary of a legendary man in Cape Town this week.
For Mandela Day on Wednesday 18th, show your support for charities in Cape Town and watch Long Walk to Freedom on the rooftop of the Grand Daddy Hotel. You can also enjoy music for Madiba with Cape Town Opera’s Mandela Trilogy at the Artscape Opera House on Tuesday 17th and Wednesday 18th, with the Voices of Hope, Freedom & Unity choral concert at St George’s Cathedral that night.
In other music news, Saturday 21st sees Dan Patlansky performing at Olympia Cafe in Kalk Bay and Albert Frost live at Joostenberg Wines, while the Friends of Orchestral Music will host the second of three fundraising soirees at Bowmans on Sunday 22nd, featuring a programme of string quartets followed by drinks and canapés.
Speaking of fine food, Restaurant Week’s ‘Dining with the Stars’, in which the country’s best restaurants serve four-course lunches from R300 and five-course dinners from R400, starts on Thursday 19th. There’s also more to savour at the Soetes and Soup Festival on Friday 20th and Saturday 21st. But don’t feel bad if you overdo it; with the Cape Town Festival of Running on this weekend, you can have your cake and eat it too!
