30 July to 5 August

A new month means plenty of opportunities to enjoy the best new experiences!

In arts news, the play Ruth First: 117 Days runs at the Artscape Arena from Tuesday 31st while the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra returns to the renovated City Hall, opening the winter symphony season with a performance of Mahler’s mighty Resurrection Symphony.

At the movies, the Grand Daddy Rooftop Cinema is screening Mrs Doubtfire on Monday 30th, Ster-Kinekor is releasing Sicario: Day of the Soldado on Friday 3rd, and Cinema Nouveau is releasing the Bolshoi Ballet’s staging of Coppelia on Saturday 4th.

To celebrate International Friendship Day on Monday 30th, here’s where to find Cape Town’s best two-for-one restaurant specials and the city’s best tapas style restaurants (including the Mediterranean Si Cantina Sociale in the Silo District). And if you’re hungry for more, this weekend sees the Robertson Slow Food & Wine Festival starting on Friday 3rd and the fourth annual Woodstock Winter Beer Festival at the Castle of Good Hope on Saturday 4th.

To celebrate the fact that Kalk Bay was recently named one of the coolest suburbs in the world, why not explore Cape Town’s deep south? From breathtaking Simon’s Town to some of the other small coastal towns across South Africa, enjoy the adventure wherever it may lead.
