18 March to 24 March

There’s lots to celebrate in this week’s event guide!

In arts and entertainment news, the first annual Mother City Comedy Festival opens at the Baxter Theatre on Tuesday 19th, the Equilibrium Festival is in Paarl on Saturday 23rd, and the annual ComicEx is at the Grand Arena all weekend.

Music highlights include the Olga Kern Celebrity Recital at the Baxter Theatre on Monday 18th, guitarist James Grace in Recuerdos at Theatre on the Bay from Tuesday 19th, and two outdoors concerts: Rock on the Lawns (featuring The Cure) at Kenilworth Racecourse on Thursday 21st as well as Shortstraw and Bam Bam Brown at Kirstenbosch on Sunday 24th.

Staying outdoors, the Galileo Open Air Cinema has four screenings this week: Rio at Kirstenbosch on Wednesday 20th, Hairspray at Kirstenbosch on Thursday 21st, Casper at Meerendal Wine Estate on Friday 22nd, and The Sound of Music at Dornier Wine Estate in Stellenbosch on Saturday 23rd.

With the first of many public holidays this year, you can take a long weekend getaway. But if you’re staying the city, celebrate the full moon with great activities on Thursday 21st. Indeed, given that Tuesday 19th is the one-year anniversary of this blog, there’s lots to celebrate this week.

So raise a glass at one of the best rooftop bars in Cape Town or enjoy a meal at one of the restaurants with the most glorious views. There’s a lot to look at right now but even more to look forward to in the year ahead!
